William Carter appears to have been an alias, his birth name being E. Faulkner.
Soldier's Died confirms William died of wounds received in France and Flanders on 17 February 1917, while serving with the 23rd Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers (Tyneside Irish). William was born in West Bromwich. He is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
