An original World War One medal pair, comprising British War Medal and Victory Medal, replacement ribbons. Named as follows;
2.LIEUT, R.A.HART.
Robert Arthur Hart was from Palmer's Green.
He is recorded on Soldier's Died as having died of wounds on 1 August 1917, whilst attached to the 1st Battalion.
The war diary records an attack on the 31st July at Hooge, commencing 3.50am. The creeping barrange worked well and the first trenches were captured with minimal opposition. MG fire was encountered into the right flank, and there was a light enemy artillery barrage but still the Worcester's went forward and continued to capture trenches, dugouts and a tunnel under the Menin-Ypres Road, where 41 prisoners were taken.
Interestingly enough there appears to have a number of tanks used in the attack, but the unsuitable ground bogged them down and they were heavily shelled. The attack does however appear to have been relatively successful and the new positions were soon reversed and fortified.
Robert died of wounds the following day at 32 Casualty Clearing Station.
Sold with paperwork, some photographs of his grave marker and copy of a letter from TNA to Robert's mother.
