George Port was entitled to a pair.
He is noted on Soldiers Died as having been killed in action on 8 October 1916 whilst serving with the 10th Battalion.
October 1916 shows the unit at Montauban, moving into trenches at Mametz Wood. The war diary is extremely difficult to read but there is mention on the 8th of Bird Trench and Mametz Wood. During some form of action on this day, George was killed in action.
He has no known grave and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.
