An original 1914 "Mons" Star, length of original ribbon, correctly named to;

22344 SAPR: R. ROGERS. R.E.

Richard Rogers was entitled to a Mons Star trio and served with 3rd Signal Company, Royal Engineers, having arrived in France on 16 August 1914. He also entitled to wear the date clasp, but this sadly missing. He also served under s/n 602402, reaching the rank of A/Sjt.

He applied for but was denied a pension, having taken shrapnel into his right buttock. He appealed and was rejected again.  The Pension Records also seem to suggest he served in South Africa and India, having enlisted 12 September 1905.

He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal on the 3 September 1918.  The citation states;

"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When all communcation lines were constantly being cut both to batteries and outposts, this non-commissioned officer went out again and again under shell fire and gas, and by untiring efforts, kept open communications.  He was working continuously on the line for the greater part of two days and one night, though twice knocked over and badly shaken by shell bursts."
