We have worked closely with our manufacturers to bring you these reproduction United States Army Air Force white t-shirts, printed with the famous winged star emblem. The close collaboration between ourselves, bringing knowledge of period clothing and our manufacturer partners using their expertise in production of modern clothing has enabled us to create a t-shirt cut in the same style as an original 1940s t-shirt.
We have also been able to replicate the printing on the front of the t-shirt to an excellent standard. Patterns for both t-shirt sizing and the printing design were followed to an exacting specification that is sometimes not found in the more modern style reproduction white T's.
Being cut to a vintage pattern, the t-shirts have the correct short sleeves, and are quite close cut. We would recommend ordering one size larger than you usually would. If you wear a 42" chest, we'd recommend ordering a 44", unless you are looking to recreate the original tight fitting look.
The white t-shirt is a controversial item for military re-enactors of the World War II period, but it is clear they were in widespread use particularly during basic training. Many of the originals are printed with the name of the base or 'Fort' where the solider undertook their early training. This example, is unusual being in two colours, both of which we have tried to match very closely. Most of the period t-shirts are printed in a single colour. In this listing I have also included a photograph of the original t-shirt this design was based on.
